"Donald Singing the Blues" charcoal
Donald Wardlow is a musician, Vietnam Veteran, and good friend. I met Donald
when we started renting our Trade Street Studio, since Donald comes by once a
week to wash all the windows and clean the building, which he does nearly every
day for many businesses in Winston. As he is homeless, Donald sets his guitar
and backpack down while cleaning windows. One day someone grabbed his guitar and
ran off. When I heard about this I bought this guitar for Donald, but he simply
refused to take something as a gift, offering to work it off cleaning. I
suggested he pose for a few sketches and paintings instead and this is one of
the ones I did of him. I think I enjoy hearing his stories as much as I do
painting and drawing him.
